Common Questions
STOMAGUARD is a precision-engineered protective shield designed specifically for ostomates. It clips over your existing ostomy appliance (stoma bag) and provides a hard outer shell that absorbs and distributes external forces, protecting your stoma and pouch from impacts, pressure, and everyday bumps like seatbelts or accidental knocks.
STOMAGUARD is suitable for all types of ostomy: colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy. It is designed to work with standard one-piece and two-piece appliances from leading UK and European suppliers. If you're unsure whether it will fit your specific appliance, please get in touch and we'll be happy to advise.
STOMAGUARD weighs just 18 grams, roughly the weight of a few sheets of paper. Despite its featherlight weight, the rigid structure is strong enough to withstand over 5kg of direct loading force. This means it can absorb seatbelt pressure, contact in sport, and everyday bumps without deforming or failing.
Yes. All materials used in STOMAGUARD are body-safe and skin-tested. The neoprene comfort strip that contacts the skin is non-irritating and suitable for all-day wear. The structural frame material is non-toxic and thoroughly tested for extended skin contact. We would always recommend discontinuing use if you experience any unexpected skin reaction and consulting your stoma nurse.
STOMAGUARD is designed for quick, tool-free fitting. Simply apply your ostomy appliance as normal, then place STOMAGUARD over your stoma and pouch. The guard clips securely into position in seconds, no adhesives, straps, or adjustments required. To remove, simply unclip. Most users take less than a minute to fit and remove the guard.
Yes. STOMAGUARD has a low-profile design specifically to be worn discreetly under everyday clothing. The flat, contoured shape keeps bulk to a minimum. Many users wear it under a t-shirt, work clothes, or sportswear without it being visible or creating an obvious outline. Looser-fitting clothing will make it completely undetectable.
STOMAGUARD is designed to be compatible with the vast majority of standard ostomy appliances used in the UK, including bags from Coloplast, Hollister, ConvaTec, Salts Healthcare, and others. If you have an unusual or non-standard appliance, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm compatibility.
Absolutely, that's one of the key use cases STOMAGUARD was designed for. Many ostomates feel anxious about returning to sport after surgery. STOMAGUARD gives you a protective barrier that lets you get back to exercise, swimming (with suitable protection), team sports, gym work, and more with genuine confidence. Please ensure STOMAGUARD is securely fitted before any high-impact activity.
STOMAGUARD is designed for all-day wear, up to 24 hours continuously. The neoprene comfort strip and the lightweight frame work together to ensure it remains comfortable throughout the day without creating pressure points or skin irritation. Most users wear it from morning to bedtime and choose to remove it only when changing their appliance.
STOMAGUARD is fully washable and reusable. To clean, simply remove it from your appliance and rinse under warm water. You can use a mild soap or an ostomate-friendly skin-safe cleanser. Allow to air dry before reattaching. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or very hot water which could damage the neoprene strip. With proper care, your STOMAGUARD should provide durable, long-lasting protection.
The neoprene strip runs along the base edge of STOMAGUARD, the part that sits against your body. Neoprene is a soft, flexible, skin-friendly material commonly used in medical and sports products. Its purpose is to provide a cushioned, comfortable interface between the rigid guard and your skin. Without it, the hard frame could cause pressure discomfort over long periods of wear. The neoprene strip ensures all-day wearing comfort.
